Caplin & Drysdale is pleased to announce the promotion of Shah M. Raafi to Of Counsel effective January 1, 2026. Congratulations Shah!

Mr. Raafi's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on creditors’ rights and bankruptcy litigation.

Mr. Raafi has considerable experience representing official creditors’ committees in asbestos and talc mass tort bankruptcies, including those of Valves and Controls US, Inc.; Whittaker, Clark & Daniels, Inc.; Barretts Minerals Inc.; Cyprus Mines Corporation; AIO US, Inc.; Aldrich Pump LLC; DBMP LLC; and Paddock Enterprises, LLC. He also has represented clients in commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels of state and federal courts.

Mr. Raafi earned his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale, he practiced commercial litigation and white collar criminal defense at an international law firm in New York, New York. During law school, Mr. Raafi served as Articles Editor for the Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law and was a member of Berkeley’s International Human Rights Law Clinic. In 2019, Mr. Raafi spent six months as a housing attorney at Brooklyn Legal Services representing low-income tenants in Kings County Housing Court.
