BNA Daily Tax Report
Caplin & Drysdale's Beth Shapiro Kaufman is quoted in the November 21 edition of BNA's Daily Tax Report concerning the extension of the 2012 estate tax rates.  In an excerpt taken from the article "Estate Tax Will Be Extended at 2012 Rates: Attorneys Predict; Wealth Planning Less Clear," Ms. Kaufman is optimistic, saying "she sees the fiscal cliff as an opportune time for Congress to resolve a lot of issues." "I don't see much benefit in dragging this on. There is popular sentiment that people want to see these issues resolved, Wall Street wants these issues resolved, and there is more pressure to come to some compromise now."

Ms. Kaufman goes on to say "she has spent a lot of time in the last couple of weeks telling clients not to make [$5.12 million] gifts." "I'm telling people at the margin that they shouldn't necessarily do it," she said. "Unless we go back to a $1 million exemption, which I don't think will happen, it's really only of a marginal benefit to make that gift."  For more information, please contact Beth Shapiro Kaufman at 202.862.5062 or bkaufman@capdale.com or go to BNA's website.
