Mortimer Caplin Gives Keynote Address at Normandy Institute

June 21, 2014, Caplin & Drysdale

Mortimer M. Caplin will give the keynote address at The Normandy Institute on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 6:30 PM. The event will be hosted at the City View Room on the campus of George Washington University, 1957 E Street, NW, 7th Floor. The Institute's mission is to educate younger generations on the significance of the Normandy Invasion and the sacrifice made by commanders and ordinary citizens to ensure a world of greater freedom and safety.

This year, 15 students and 15 teachers participated in the "Fallen Soldier Project." Each student/teacher team researched a soldier from their home state who fought and died at Normandy. After exhaustive research, the students and teachers created a website dedicated to their soldier's life and ultimate sacrifice. Please visit PFC Pedro Rodón's website to get an idea of the work done by the students and teachers and to learn more about Mr. Rodón and others to whom we owe our freedom.

The Institute provides a unique intergenerational opportunity and an extensive learning experience for the students and teachers selected each year in a national competition. Each June, this group is transported first to Washington, D.C., and then to Normandy, France. Participants gain a better understanding of World War II, a greater appreciation for our country's role, as well as the meaning of sacrifice.
