04.26.2022 | 4:30 PM EDT
Location: Miller & Chevalier

The U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) is in the midst of a multi-stage rulemaking, implementing the Corporate Transparency Act of 2021 (CTA) and attempting to crack down on the use of U.S.-based companies to evade taxes, launder money, and commit fraud. Rules proposed thus far would require many entities to provide detailed reporting to Treasury on their beneficial ownership for the first time, and additional proposed rules will follow. Our panelists will discuss:

  • The conditions giving rise to the CTA
  • The provisions of the proposed rules
  • The next steps in the rulemaking
  • Related developments in federal law enforcement's use of financial institution reporting
  • Ramifications for criminal tax investigations and other white collar investigations and civil tax controversies.
