Narrative
Caplin & Drysdale is a medium-sized firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., with a second small office in New York City. Best known as one of the nation's leading tax firms, most of the firm's lawyers are generalists with broad knowledge and experience in the tax law, and particular lawyers are experts in corporate taxation, mergers and acquisitions, international tax matters, employee benefits, taxation of insurance companies and products, leasing transactions, partnerships, estate planning, exempt organizations, and litigation of civil and criminal tax cases at the trial and appellate stages
A substantial part of the firm's practice is now devoted to civil and criminal litigation in both state and federal courts. The firm represents business entities and individuals in tax and other white collar criminal prosecutions at all stages of the federal criminal process, both pre and post-indictment. The civil litigation practice includes the representation of plaintiffs and defendants in litigation involving RICO, securities law, ERISA, products liability, legal malpractice, forfeiture, bankruptcy, contract and other commercial disputes before courts, arbitration panels and regulatory agencies in securities and banking areas.
Caplin & Drysdale specializes in providing custom service in important or complex business situations and is particularly proud of the caliber of its attorneys. Many have served in policy-making positions in the government, either before joining the firm or during a break from private practice. Attorneys from Caplin & Drysdale write and speak extensively on legal matters for business and professional audiences and teach part-time at Washington-area and other law schools.
Both the size of our office and our law associate-to-partner ratio enables new associates to work directly with both partners and other associates, and associates are encouraged to assume a significant amount of responsibility for handling client matters at an early stage.
The firm seeks Summer Associates with outstanding academic credentials. They must be in the top 10% of their law school class, and participation on law review or another journal is desirable.
