Joanne C. Youn is Of Counsel in Caplin & Drysdale's Washington, D.C. office. She joined the firm's employee benefits group in 2008. Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale, Ms. Youn practiced in the tax group of a major international law firm.
Her practice encompasses all areas of employee benefits law and ERISA. She has broad range of experience advising clients with regard to the design and administration of qualified pension plans, corrective action under the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS), and fiduciary obligations under U.S. Department of Labor regulations. She has handled numerous projects involving nonqualified deferred compensation plans, the review and drafting of plan documents and executive agreements, and compliance assistance with regard to Code Section 409A requirements. She also regularly advises clients with regard to the management of fully insured and self-insured health and welfare plans, including compliance and documentation under HIPAA, COBRA and Medicare Part D.
Her experience includes counsel to public and private companies regarding employee benefit representations, covenants, diligence and transitions related to acquisitions and financings. Her clients include both for-profit and nonprofit organizations.
Ms. Youn is active in both the tax community and the minority bar. Her presentations include speeches to the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists and the Perkins Leadership Institute.
